Biodiversity
The diversity of life in the ocean is called marine biodiversity.
From barnacles to whales to coral reefs, biodiversity covers all
animals, plants and microbes living in our oceans. There are so
many different and unusual species in some places; they're called
biological hot spots. The biodiversity of the oceans enables nature
to be resourceful, resilient and able to adapt to changes in its
environment, that's why it's so important. In the last 50 years,
fishing has had the most significant impact on biodiversity in
the oceans. The less biodiversity there is, the less nature will
be able to provide humanity with food and income and cultural benefits.
These are some solutions to protect marine biodiversity. Use less plastic,
recycle, support sustainable fishing practices, and even just picking up
litter from the beach.
